Your osteopath, as a member of the CPOQ, has completed osteopathic training that meets the standards established by the World Health Organization (WHO). This includes comprehensive education in human anatomy, osteopathic techniques, and supervised clinical practice totaling 1000 hours, as well as a clinical research project. Your osteopath is also trained to recognize contraindications and will refer you to your physician when osteopathic care is not recommended without medical advice.

As osteopathy is not currently regulated, CPOQ member osteopaths are required to adhere to their association’s code of ethics. This includes the obligation to respect all activities reserved for regulated professions, as defined by the Quebec Professional Code.

In addition, your osteopath is required to maintain professional liability insurance specific to their osteopathic practice and to provide annual proof of coverage.

They must not have been subject to any criminal, disciplinary, or professional convictions.

They are also required to inform the CPOQ without delay of any criminal, disciplinary, or professional conviction.

Finally, in order to maintain their competencies, your osteopath must complete 45 hours of mandatory continuing education every 3 years to maintain their membership with the CPOQ.
